part #1 an introduction to responsible technology

What capacity does Canada have right now to address the complex and rapidly evolving challenges posed by technology and AI? This is the central question of the Canadian Responsible Technology Landscape Series which launched on September 28, 2023. In this eight-part series, goodbot explores what responsible technology is, what are common terms used in industry, what laws are in effect today, what policies are being introduced at the federal and provincial levels, how Canadians are seeing accountability through litigation and investigations, what Canada’s nonprofit capacity looks like and how to understand the wide range of harms that have led to this point. We will also release the findings from our Discovery research which features interviews and survey results from our consultations with responsible technology experts.

Part #1 Introduction to Canada’s Responsible Technology Landscape sets the context for this series exploring what responsible technology entails, why it is urgent to prioritize responsible technology now, and - ultimately - how to begin embedding responsible technology practices in public policy, business, schools, and academia. Our introductory report can be found on SubStack and Medium.
