What’s AI Got To Do With It? Competition Policy in Canada

In 2024, the Competition Bureau launched consultations exploring questions surrounding how AI might impact and need to be considered in the context of Competition Policy. This call for feedback was grounded in questions and issues raised in the Bureau’s 2024 White Paper exploring AI markets - including vertical relationships, infrastructure, development and deployment - and AI and Competition - including mergers and acquisitions, cartels, deceptive marketing practices, and competition promotion in the rapidly developing context of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

While new AI tools and technologies offer promise, critical issues must be addressed to ensure that already-dominant platforms and AI companies do not further entrench dominance in ways that harm markets, domestic innovation, consumer decision-making and policy-making. GoodBot’s submission focuses on four thematic areas: (1) Deceptive Marketing (2) Mergers & Acquisitions (3) Price Fixing & Obfuscation, and (4) Value Chain Considerations.
